The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday instructed the delimitation committees to complete their tasks by September 26, without exception, with the aim of publishing the preliminary constituencies on September 27.
The ECP’s spokesperson said in a statement that the commission conducted a review of the constituency committees’ progress during a meeting.
It was stressed that the committees must complete their tasks by September 26, without any further delays.
The commission has taken steps to expedite the process for early general elections by adjusting the duration of constituencies.
According to the ECP, constituency announcements would now take place on November 30, with the intention of enabling early elections. Initially, the election commission had set the constituency delimitation period until December 14.
Meanwhile, the ECP has equipped its Election Monitoring Control Centre with modern technology in line with the international standards in order to prevent violations of the code of conduct in elections.
“Dash-Board, MIS Framework, and Real-time Monitoring features have been installed in the Election Monitoring Control Centre,” the Election Commission secretary said while briefing the print and electronic media at the ECP Secretariat here on Monday.
The participants were given a detailed briefing on the various systems and features installed in the centre.
It was told that the monitoring department was being made efficient, modern, fast and in accordance with international standards to prevent violations of the code of conduct in elections and to ensure knowledge on election laws.
Through this, the Election Commission secretary said, during the election, various complaints and timely and effective action could be taken on election violations.
Special Secretary Dr Syed Asif Hussain and Special Secretary Zafar Iqbal Hussain and other concerned senior officers participated in the media session.
The media was also informed about the monitoring during the upcoming general elections.
At the end of the programme, the media representatives asked various questions regarding the Election Monitoring Control Centre, which were answered by the relevant officers.
