Caretaker minister reaffirms commitment to sustainable economic growth

ISLAMABAD:

Caretaker Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Muhammad Sami, on Monday, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to steering the national economy towards sustainable growth during a meeting with the World Bank’s Country Director to Pakistan, Njay Benhassine.

The meeting, held in Islamabad, highlighted the essential role the World Bank plays as a significant development partner for Pakistan. The country director was accompanied by a team, including Operations Manager for Pakistan at the World Bank, Gailius J Draugelis, and Senior Social Development Specialist, Kamran Akbar.

The planning minister acknowledged the World Bank’s longstanding assistance, emphasising its vital role in Pakistan’s socioeconomic development. “The Planning Ministry is committed to facilitating the World Bank in implementing development projects that will make Pakistan climate-resilient," stated Sami, reiterating the government's determination to revive the country's economy.

The World Bank’s country director expressed confidence in the interim government’s development policy and pledged continued support for climate-resilient infrastructure, human resource development, education, vocational training, employment, water, agriculture, and energy development projects in Pakistan.
