Singer Meesha Shafi took a trip to the Toronto International Film Festival in support of the many Pakistani talents that were gracing the cinema screens of the film festival this year.
Sporting big smiles, the Muaziz Saarif singer took a moment to share the highlights from her Toronto trip to her Instagram account. Sharing a carousel of photos, Shafi reportedly spent time with Ms. Marvel’s Iman Vellani, Dobara Phir Se actor Ali Kazmi and In Flames’ debut director Zarrar Kahn.
The Bholay Bhalay singer captioned, “So much talent and such heartening representation at [TIFF],” sealing off her prideful sentiments with a red heart emoji.
Shafi continued, “It was my pleasure to support Zarrar Kahn as he premiered his feature film directorial debut with In Flames Movie starring some phenomenal new actors and produced by the awesome Anam Abbas. Great meeting Iman Vellani who is supercool. Ali Kazmi (my brother from another mother) and I always MAX the camera up, and Asma Arshad Mahmood and I twinning in our purple kaftans.” The model capped off her caption with a purple heart and a hashtag in support of the film festival.
Kahn’s In Flames has been making headlines since its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May of 2023. A locally based horror-story, the film narrates the story of a mother-daughter duo battling the realities of the resurrection of supernatural and real beings with no use of glamour or even music, but rather relies heavily on script and sound to establish its chilling nature.
Other films such as the Pakistani-Canadian cross-cultural drama, The Queen of my Dreams, also made its highly anticipated debut, proving as a testament to the ability of Pakistani cinema to move towards critically acclaimed and internationally recognised work.
