SHRC writes to IG, home dept for recovery of abductees

Commission sends fact-finding mission to district Kashmore-Kandhkot

KARACHI:

The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has raised alarm over the non-recovery of remaining abductees from Kashmore-Kandhot district and sent letters to the Inspector General of Sindh Police Riffat Mukhtar and the home department for urgent intervention to ensure safe and immediate recovery of abductees and maintenance of law and order across the district.

The commission has also sent a fact-finding mission to district Kashmore-Kandhkot to observe the protest organised by the Hindu community and civil society, and assess the human rights violations in the district.

The mission, led by Member Board Sukhdev Assardas Hemnani, also included SHRC team. The mission found growing mistrust and dissatisfaction of public against local police with respect to transparency of ongoing operations, non-registration of cases, discrepancies in the number of abductees and non-cooperation of the police.

In its letter the SHRC has drawn the attention of authorities towards the issue of underreported abductions and delay in handing over of the 'recovered' abductees, Sagar Kumar as claimed by the police and conveyed the recovery news to the community and Kumar's family.
