Rs1.94b to be spent on Katcha areas law, order

Govt to equip police with three more armoured vehicles

MULTAN:

Some important decisions have been taken to maintain law and order on a permanent basis in the Katcha areas of South Punjab as two base camps and 19 checkpoints will be constructed for the police in the Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur districts.

As many as three armored vehicles will also be purchased for the police, and the planning and development department of Punjab has approved Rs1.94 billion in this regard. 

This was stated during a meeting held at the South Punjab Secretariat on Wednesday.

The Additional Chief Secretary of South Punjab, Capt. (Retd.) Saqib Zafar, and the Additional IG of Police of South Punjab, Maqsoodul Hasan, participated in the meeting while the Chairman of P&D, Iftikhar Ali Sahu, joined the meeting through a video link.

Regional Police Officers of Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur and the District Police Officers of Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur participated in the meeting virtually.

The additional chief secretary told the meeting that under the directions of caretaker chief minister, a plan had been finalised for the development of infrastructure in the Katcha areas. The development plan consisted of two phases. 

He said that one base camp each would be constructed in the Katcha area of Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur while nine checkpoints would be constructed in Rajanpur and 11 in Rahim Yar Khan in the first phase.

The Additional IGP of South Punjab said that Punjab police had bravely wiped out dacoits in the Katcha areas, and a plan of action had been prepared to establish peace in this area on a permanent basis.

He said that those who disturbed the law and order would be dealt with iron hands.
