Island nation’s troupe steals the show at Pakistan Theatre Festival

KARACHI:

On the third day of the "Pakistan Theater Festival" underway at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, the stage was set afire by Sri Lankan traditional dance and music.

The Music Kanya saw Sri Lankan dance group Chandana Wickramasinghe and The Dancers' Guild perform "Leila May Leila".

Ridma Rata rendered the heritage dance of Devadasi on Thammattama, the traditional drums of the island nation, leaving the audience spell bound was organised by the Sri Lankan dance group, in which the President of the Arts Council Muhammad Ahmad Shah, Consul General of Sri Lanka Jagath Abeywarna and diplomats from different countries were present,

Sri Lankan singer Sonal Prabhashitha, Pakistani singers Sonia and Muneeb Khan and Ahsan Bari created the magic of their voices. Bari and Sonal gave a joint performance. However, Sonal and Sonia stole the show by singing the world famous Pakistani song "Pasoori".

On this occasion, ACP President Mohammad Ahmad Shah said that today Pakistan Sri Lanka friendship has completed 75 years.

The Sri Lankan dance group will also perform in Islamabad and Lahore, he added.

Sri Lankan Consul General Jagath Abeywarna said, "I am very happy to see such a great programme at a time when we are celebrating Pak-Lanka diplomatic relations, you all made this event a success,"

At the end Sri Lankan national anthem was presented, later souvenirs and awards were distributed to Sri Lankan artistes.
