IHC moved for removal of PMIC chairman

ILF files plea accusing Ranjha of bias against PTI chief

ISLAMABAD:

The Insaf Lawyers’ Forum (ILF) has filed an application in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), requesting it to remove Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission (PMIC) Chairman Brig (retd) Muzaffar Alssssi Ranjha over allegedly opposing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

In the plea, Muhammad Qadeer Hussain of the ILF adopted the stance that Ranjha was biased against the PTI chief and would use his authority against the former ruling party workers.

It added that his presence on this position posed a serious threat to the holding of free and fair elections in the country.

The application noted that Shehbaz Sharif as then chief minster of Punjab had appointed Ranjha as provincial anti-corruption director general, but the PTI removed him from the position after coming to power.

It further stated that the cabinet secretary on the recommendation of Shehbaz while he was the premier appointed him as chairperson of the PMIC.

According to the request, the appointment of Ranjha was made on political grounds, and that if he continued to work in the caretaker government, the holding of polls in a transparent manner was doubtful.

The plea requested the court to remove him from his position.

The PMIC is a statutory body that functions on general orders and under the supervision of the prime minister and is directly answerable to him. It primarily deals with cases of inquires and inspections referred to it by the premier.
