Speeding water tanker runs over pedestrians

Driver of the tanker fled the scene but was arrested four hours later

Two persons died while two others sustained injuries as a speeding water tanker ran over citizens, standing on a footpath in Korangi Industrial Road.

Police said that the deceased, Saeed and Saleem died on the spot while the two injured, Zaman and Saleem were rushed to Jinnah Hospital. The condition of the injured is out of danger, said the police.

The driver of the tanker, Naseeb Khan, managed to escape from the scene but was arrested after four hours. He told police that his tanker was empty and he was commuting to Landhi pumping station to fill the water. The tanker speed was high as it was empty which caused the driver to lose control and rammed into the footpath.

Awami Colony police were investigating. A case was registered against the driver.

The deceased were the residents of Landhi 36B and were employed in a private factory.

Separately, a man, Tahir, 55, died while his 15-year-old son, Aqeel, suffered critical injuries after their motorcycle collided with a freight vehicle at KDA flyover in North Nazimabad.

The deceased and the injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. According to Hyderi police station SHO, Imran Khan, the freight vehicle was stationed up to change a deflated tyre at KDA flyover when the victims’ motorcycle rammed into it.
