LAHORE:

First Lady Begum Samina Arif Alvi stressed the importance of early breast cancer diagnosis and awareness during a seminar titled “Breast Cancer, Mental Health and Facilitation of Persons with Disabilities.”

The event, jointly organised by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the University of Lahore (UOL), aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer’s early symptoms and promote monthly self-examinations for women.

Begum Samina Arif Alvi highlighted the significance of educating women about self-examinations and the need to promptly seek medical advice in case of any abnormalities.

She emphasized the role of media channels such as TV, radio, dramas, and newspapers in disseminating messages about breast cancer and mental health.

Addressing the importance of individuals with disabilities, the First Lady advocated for job quotas for them in both the public and private sectors. She commended the progress made in increasing breast cancer awareness over the past five years, resulting in more cases being diagnosed at treatable stages.

Begum Samina Alvi called for continued collaboration between organizations like WHO, civil society, and cancer hospitals to combat breast cancer effectively.
