RAWALPINDI:

A sunshade erected above a bus stop on a busy road in Saddar which had toppled over and now occupies a portion of the congested road in Rawalpindi’s cantonment area has not been fixed despite the passage of four days.

The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) had put up shade on the bus stop at Kamran Market Chowk along with at a dozen other locations around a year ago as part of a project worth ‘millions of rupees’.

But despite the passage of three days, the relevant departments have failed to address the situation, said a nearby shopkeeper.

Naeem Khan and Abdul Majeed, who have shops in the area, said that the incident on Thursday, August 31, when the shed collapsed with a loud thud. The RCB administration was immediately notified of the situation as was the local police, they said

“But no one has come to inspect the sunshade or spoken to us,” said Majeed.

He added that the shade also affected traffic flow in the area that is already congested.

The traffic police were also informed, but they said fixing the shade was responsibility of the RCB.

Currently, the shade occupies a part of the road jutting out like a barricade, with those waiting at the stop unprotected from the sun and rain.

Meanwhile, the RCB said that the sunshade would be repaired and installed on Monday (today).
