Police said deceased Faisal Khan was a ‘notorious’ hitman

A man accused of multiple murders was killed during what Jhelum police said was a botched attempt by his accomplices to rescue him.

According to police, Faisal Khan alias Faisal Pehlwan was in the custody of City police station who were transporting him for investigative purposes on Thursday.

However, when the police party reached a housing scheme in the remits of Mangla police station, they came under heavy fire.

In this exchange, Faisal was shot by bullets fired by his own accomplice, said police. The injured accused was shifted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The unidentified accomplices were able to escape, police said while adding that a case had been registered against them.

They said that Faisal had been nominated in a case in which two people were shot dead and two others were injured.

Police sources said Faisal was a hitman who had been involved in multiple cases of murder, robbery and possession of illegal firearms.
