'Midsummer Chaos’ returns with…well, more chaos

The trailer for the second season just dropped, revealing the start of a new chapter come September

A web series that proved to be our very own local version of Euphoria, the fan-favourite of Midsummer Chaos is set to return to our screens on September 9 with a recent drop of its undoubtedly chaotic trailer on Instagram. While the first season introduced us to recognizable names like Saman Ansari, Nael Aamir, Khushhal Khan, and others, it seems that we will be following the story of a new group of misfits this coming season.

With co-creators Ahmed Sarym and Ayesha Naveed, the new instalment of the story seems it will dapple in larger constructs like sexual harassment and the nature of toxic relationships – taking a coming-of-age watch to one that pushes to the tragic bounds of reality. While the trailer itself does not reveal much of the story we will be witnessing, it is safe to say that come September, the audiences will be immersed in a world of relatability as we watch a “picture-perfect” friend group from Lahore crumble to pieces.

The trailer, posted to the Qissa Nagri Instagram, introduces us to the cast of Mustafa Taifoor, Haider Abbas, Meher Hasan, Shameen Tariq and Azariah Naseeb. Directed by Sarym himself, while speaking to The Express Tribune, the creator went on to explain, “Season two is a coming-of-age, angsty teenage drama that carries the essence of the first [season]; centred around the lives of young adults dealing with family drama, friendships, romantic relationships – but it’s a completely different story with new characters, set in Lahore. It’s important to me that I point that out because a lot of attention to detail was paid in terms of the cultural differences between the two cities [of Lahore and Islamabad].”

Midsummer Chaos initially premiered in June of 2021, exploring the lives of Islamabad’s elite teenagers in a world of ‘wokedom.’ The first season explored the tropes of identity struggles, self-awareness and romantic relationships in budding Islamabad, gaining over a million views – some in general admiration of the storyline but some, admittedly, in criticism. However, only time will show what exactly Sarym has in store for his new batch of trouble.
