Epidemic feared as dengue cases rise

Nine dengue cases reported during past 24 hours

KARACHI:

The cases of dengue fever are increasing across the province. During the last 24 hours, nine cases have been reported in Sindh, of which seven are from Karachi and two from Hyderabad.

This year, the number of reported cases in Sindh has increased to 896, of which 731 are from Karachi.

According to the data released by the Sindh Health Department, four dengue cases were reported from Karachi district east, two from south and one from district Malir.

Two cases have come to light in the last 24 hours in Thatta district of Hyderabad.

This month, 156 cases of dengue were reported in Sindh, of which 130 were from Karachi, 20 from Hyderabad and three from Mirpurkhas. One case each of dengue was reported from Larkana, Sukkur and Shaheed Benazirabad.

Among the cases reported from Karachi this month, the highest number of 72 dengue cases were reported from Karachi east, 19 from central, 21 from south, three from west, seven from Malir, and four each from Korangi and Keamari districts.

This year, 896 cases of dengue have been reported in Sindh, of which 731 are from Karachi, 103 from Hyderabad, 31 from Mirpurkhas and 14 from Larkana, thirteen dengue cases have been reported from Sukkur and 4 from Shaheed Benazirabad.

So far this year, the highest number - 291 - of dengue cases have been reported in district Sharqi. 126 cases were reported in central, 79 in Korangi, 136 in south, 20 in west, 40 in Malir and 39 in Keamari district.

It may be mentioned that no death due to dengue has been reported this year. Last year, as many as 23,274 cases were reported from across the province.

Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqir, while taking notice of increasing malaria cases across the province has directed the Health Department and Sindh Local Government Department to take necessary measures to control the disease in a week.
