‘Jannat Se Aagay’ director criticises Nadia Khan for ‘careless’ remarks about show
Jannat Se Aagay is one of television’s more recent offerings, starring well-known names like Kubra Khan, Ramsha Khan and Mirza Gohar Rasheed. The serial attempts to tell the story behind the realities of show business in a time of morning shows. However, the project has been met with criticism by the morning show pioneer, Nadia Khan, herself. It’s director, Haseeb Hassan, however, hasn’t taken lightly to her words as he criticised the actor for not “[delivering an] intelligent analysis and constructive critique while adhering to ethical standards.”
The popular host herself appeared on Kya Drama Hai with Mukarram Kaleem along with Rubina Ashraf and Marina Khan. On the talk show, the actors were asked to give their opinions on multiple serials, during which Khan expressed a particular distaste for Jannat Se Aagay. The actor said she was offended by what was being portrayed about a culture she was responsible for helping establish: “Ham ne bohat achay achay kaam kiye hain aur koi ous kaam ko gaali de aur itna negatively bura project kare toh dukh hota hai (We have done a lot of good work and if someone curses it and projects it in such a negative light then it hurts).”
The host even asked Khan why she disliked the show so much given its fictitious nature, to which she responded, “It’s not fiction. Some of these things have happened, everybody knows. But a lot of good work has been done as well.”
To this, Hasan lamented how celebrities hold the power to shape opinions but, “too often, they wield it carelessly.” The director wrote on his Instagram, “You educate children [with] the consequences of their behaviour through fiction. Similarly, you laud our national heroes; sometimes we portray corrupt police of government officers as characters. Andhera Ujala was a prime example but no one ever took it personally and said ‘keelein chubh rahi hain!”
