RAWALPINDI:

Enraged over excessive inflation, a group of protesters torched their monthly electricity bills in the main market of Bewal City – a city in the eastern suburbs of Gujar Khan.

The irate citizens also vowed not to pay, what they called, the excessively inflated electricity bills until they were reduced.

According to sources, a large number of residents fed up with receiving inflated electricity bills gathered in the main market of Bewal City on Thursday and protested against the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO). Women and children were also part of the protest.

The charged protesters carried electricity bills in their hands and reached the main market shouting slogans, where a large number of traders joined the protest demonstration.

The protestors said: “It has become very difficult to pay the electricity bills, which is mainly due to the additional taxes on the bills and the huge increase in electric charges.”
