Man allegedly poisons baby daughter to death
Bhagtanwala police registered a case against a man suspected of having poisoned his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
The case had been filed by the mother of the victim.
The suspect is at large, and police are conducting raids for his arrest.
The complainant, Kanwal Bibi, in her case filed with the police, stated that she had married the suspect, Muzammil, many years ago in a village 20 kilometers off Sargodha city.
Kanwal stated that Muzammil had been upset when Kanwal gave birth to a daughter since he wanted his firstborn to be a son.
The complainant stated that their second child also happened to be a girl which increased Muzammil’s frustration manifold.
The couple had its third daughter a year and a half ago.
A few days after his third daughter was born, Muzammil's mother passed away.
The complainant Kanwal alleged that her husband considered their third daughter, Narmeen Fatimah, a curse, considering her birth to be the cause of his mother’s death.
Kanwal alleged that Muzammil, who had already been sulking over having three daughters, “started planning to get rid of the child”.
Being suspicious about the alleged intentions of her husband, Kanwal Bibi kept Narmeen close to her all the time.
Kanwal alleged that her husband did make several attempts to kill Narmeen, but those attempts remained unsuccessful.
Quarrels between Muzammil and Kanwal became a matter of routine.
She claimed that Muzammil believed his daughter to be wicked though his friends and relatives tried their best to bring him back to his senses.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the police, Sheikh Safdar, told The Express Tribune that Muzammil had allegedly poisoned his daughter Narmeen Fatima through some syrup.
He alleged that the suspect had brought a bottle filled with some syrup to the house and fed it to the child.
Later, the suspect escaped.
Narmeen was taken to a nearby private clinic from where she was referred to the DHQ Hospital Sargodha due to her critical condition.
However, Narmeen Fatima passed away before she could be taken to the DHQ Hospital Sargodha.
