In a bid to safeguard the rights of minorities and promote inter-faith harmony, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar, has announced the establishment of Meesaq Centres across all districts of the province.
Dr Anwar, in a special video message, discussed the significance and objectives of these centres, rooted in the teachings of Islam and the national narrative of Pakistan.
Dr Usman Anwar referred to a message from the Government of Pakistan, published in newspapers, which highlighted the words of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
He drew attention to a letter addressed by the holy prophet (peace be upon him) to Christians, stressing the importance of respecting their places of worship and property.
The letter unequivocally prohibits any damage, destruction, or theft of objects from Christian places of worship.
“Following the guidance of the holy prophet (peace be upon him), it is incumbent upon every Muslim to uphold this agreement,” emphasised Dr Anwar.
He also lauded the actions of Muslims who protected Christian lives and property during the Jaranwala tragedy, exemplifying the spirit of unity and compassion.
Aligned with the national narrative of Pakistan and the vision of the Prime Minister, Punjab Police Meesaq Centres have been launched as units dedicated to the protection of minority rights and the promotion of inter-faith harmony.
These centers will be established at district and sub-division levels, particularly in areas with significant Christian and minority populations.
“The Meesaq Centres will ensure the safeguarding of religious, social, and civic rights of all minority communities across the province,” Dr Usman Anwar assured.
He emphasised that these centres will promptly address grievances, social issues, and complaints lodged by citizens.
