Another gloomy day? Here's another Shae Gill song on Coke Studio Global to make it better

Singer's latest is worth a listen

Coke Studio Global has dropped another Shae Gill track on its YouTube and its worth a listen. The ballad sheds new light on the versatility and singing chops of Gill, who shot to fame after Pasoori, her debut song alongside Ali Sethi.

Titled Mera Sawera, the new track marks Gill’s first solo outing. It kicks off with a beautiful guitar/string pluck line which instantly grabs the listener’s attention, setting the tone for Gill to hit it off with her powerful vocals. The guitars give the song an off-time feel, catching you off-guard, only to beautifully tie up as the electronic beats drop.

The string arrangements build up as the song progresses, adding more dynamics and power to the chorus. Gill’s familiar raspy voice sounds immaculate and she performs almost effortlessly and full of emotion throughout the song. The lyrics deal with facing one’s demons and fighting feelings of loneliness and despair.

The video for the track fairly simple, with Gill sitting on the couch and crooning away. She stands up and begins to belt towards the end of the song, adding intensity to her performance. The song has been beautifully produced by Umair Tahir who has worked with several big Pakistani artists including the likes of Young Stunners, Faris Shafi, Hasan Raheem, Shamoon Ismail, amongst others.

Mera Sawera is Gill’s second outing on Coke Studio Global, the first being her collaboration with Turkish singer Evdeki Saat titled One Love. The platform features a selected few globally recognised artists, including Sam Smith, YungBlud and Shereya Ghoshal. Both songs have been licensed by Universal Music India and Turkey respectively. Could this suggest an international label deal for Gill in the near distant future? Only time will tell.
