Pradhyuman from ‘Indian Matchmaking’ accused of ‘physical and mental abuse’ by wife, Ashima

The couple were featured in the second season of the series

Hit Netflix show, Indian Matchmaking first released in 2020, gathered a popular following almost immediately. The show, that revolved around matchmaking before marriage in the Indian culture, included a number of contestants looking to find partners under the guidance of Sima Taparia. One such contestant was Pradhyuman Maloo. However, the jewellery maker currently finds himself in hot waters as he faces allegations of domestic violence by his current wife.

Actor and model Ashima Chauhaan has reportedly filed an FIR with the Mumbai Police against her husband, alleging physical and emotional abuse. While Chauhaan has not spoken publicly about the matter, Hindustan Times reports that these accusations were not just against the famed contestant but also included his family, who were responsible for subjecting her and her family to harassment and blackmail.

The model’s lawyer, Anmol Bartaria updated that the matter is currently in the investigative stage and that “Ashima is in the process of taking appropriate legal proceedings against the accused person.” In regards to the allegations against Maloo in the FIR, Bartaria emphasised that they were “grave and concerning, with domestic violence and constant mental, physical abuse at its core.”

However, when the Hindustan Times approached the accused for a statement, it was claimed that he was apparently unaware of any such developments. “We are in settlement talks with lawyers to resolve our marriage issues amicably,” said Maloo.

The contestant, who quickly rose to fame appeared as a regular on the first season of Indian Matchmaking. The 33-year-old, well-off jewellery designer, was infamous for the high expectations he harboured for his future partner in the show. He even claimed to have rejected a hundred and fifty matches in total.

Maloo was shown to be first set up with model Rushali Rai in the initial season of the series. However, it was revealed that this relationship did not last long and in its second season, Taparia’s Indian Matchmaking disclosed the participant to have made the acquaintance of his now-wife outside of the show’s efforts. The pair reportedly courted each other for two years and only briefly appeared in the second season. One episode even showcased the couple as they got engaged in what was no less than an elaborate proposal set-up. The couple later wed in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
