The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Tuesday announced the dismantling of a terrorist sleeper cell in Swabi district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

AIG CTD Shaukat Abass, addressing a press conference, disclosed that the police had successfully disrupted a TTP sleeper cell that was responsible for an attack on a police vehicle using a hand grenade in Yar Hussain, Swabi, during the month of Ramazan (April).

Detailing the incident, Abass stated, “During Ramazan, ASI Sahir Khan and constables Gul Naseeb and Ijaz were stationed at Yar Hussain Bazaar for traffic control before Iftari. Upon leaving for iftari with ASI Sahir driving, unidentified terrorists launched a hand grenade into their vehicle, resulting in the immediate death of ASI Sahir. Constable Gul Naseeb later succumbed to his injuries.”

Utilizing CCTV footage and initiating a thorough investigation, the police apprehended a suspect named Arshad, who disclosed that the attack had been planned at his location.

Arshad further identified the motorcycle-borne attackers as Ataullah and Sher Ali.

AIG Abass affirmed that these terrorists were associated with a dormant cell linked to Commander Saifullah Group.
