The caretaker Punjab cabinet has significantly reduced the monthly water and sewerage charges for the three and five-marla houses, provincial Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare and Welfare, Dr Jamal Nasir, said on Tuesday.
The minister said the decision was taken in the wake of the special efforts by the caretaker Punjab chief minister Mohsin Naqvi.
He added that in addition to the consumers of the Water and Sewerage Agency (WASA) in Rawalpindi, the facility has also been extended to the citizens of Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan.
Dr Nasir further said that a subsidy of Rs368 has been provided to each of the three-marla houses due to which their bill will be reduced from Rs718 to Rs342 while for five-marla houses subsidy of Rs438 has been provided reducing their bills from Rs933 to Rs495 only.
He said that this people-friendly initiative of the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi should be appreciated.

The development came just days after WASA announced a massive increase in water supply and sewerage charges for its customers in five major cities of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, citing the drastic surge in electricity tariffs and the prices of petroleum products.
According to the new tariff, the monthly charges for water supply and sewerage services were raised by 175 per cent for residential and 500 per cent for commercial consumers. The inflation-hit citizens of the garrison city were shocked to receive the newly-issued monthly bills for water supply and sewerage services with the revised rates.
