Implementation of Digital Pakistan vision prioritised

Caretaker Federal Minister of Information Technology, Telecommunication, Science and Technology Dr Umar Saif has announced that his ministry will fully implement the Digital Pakistan Vision and promote the IT and telecom sector.

“We will take all stakeholders on board. I am determined to take information and communication technology (ICT) exports from $2.62 billion to $10-20 billion,” he said.

At a meeting in the ministry, he was given a briefing on the completed, ongoing and future projects of the IT ministry.

Addressing the ministry’s officers, Saif pointed out that the caretaker government’s responsibilities were limited with the main objective of conducting free and fair general elections.

He stressed that the increase in ICT exports could contribute to stability of the country’s economy, provide decent employment for skilled people and encourage digitisation of all government, semi-government departments and organisations.

He highlighted the need for monitoring important ministerial affairs, prioritising the implementation of Digital Pakistan vision and the stability and enhancement of IT and telecom sector.

Saif, a renowned ICT figure, has served on several important positions in the country’s IT sector. He has also served as chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and vice chancellor of the Information Technology University.
