LAHORE:

Former first lady Bushra Bibi, in a letter to the caretaker Punjab government, has voiced concerns over the possibility of her husband, former prime minister Imran Khan, being “poisoned” in the Attock District Jail.

In the letter dated August 17, addressed to the Punjab home secretary, Bibi, sought the transfer of Imran from the Attock Jail to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, according to a media report on Friday.

According to the letter, Bibi said that the life of the Imran, also the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was in danger as “he was previously attacked twice”, including a gun attack.

“Moreover, it is apprehended that he may be poisoned in the jail through food as the ones responsible and perpetrators of previous attacks are still at large and have not been captured by the law enforcement agencies,” Bibi feared.

According to the media report, she further wrote that her husband was not even being allowed home-cooked food “which is against the rules and in violation of his fundamental rights”.

The letter highlighted that Imran was eligible for B-Class facilities in the jail. She pointed out that it was against the jail rules to keep him in a place which lacked even the very basic amenities.

Among other requests, Bibi said that her husband should be provided with B-Class facilities, the option to have home-cooked food, and the opportunity to consult his “personal physician”.
