Water supply to Karachi from Hub Dam has been cut off, and water availability has been severely seriously affected in various locations of the city.
The Hub Canal, which supplies water to Karachi, developed a breach, which resulted into the wastage of millions of gallons of water. Officials from the Water Corporation said that the repair work will begin when the water level drops and it will be completed in the next 24 hours.
The Water Board authorities have suspended the water supply from the Hub Dam for the water level to slightly drop so the repair work would be done. Many areas including Orangi Town, Site, Baldia Town, Surjani Town, and Noor Jehan will face acute water shortage. The Water Commission's spokesperson claims that after learning about a breach in the Hub Canal, officials from the Water Corporation rushed to the location and examined the crack. Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, the CEO of Water Corporation, gave the order to fix up Hub Canal as soon as possible.
Residents are urged to consume water carefully.
According to a report, around 10 million gallons of water per day is supplied from the Hub Canal to Karachi.
