The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is gearing up to take action against parliamentarians who won the 2008 general elections with fake degrees, in line with Supreme Court’s orders.

EC Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed said that the detailed verdict of the Supreme Court has been received. He said a strategy to hold fraudulent parliamentarians accountable will be drafted after the verdict has been reviewed.

Sources said that a committee will be formed under the headship of senior election commission officer. The committee will review the scrutiny process of degress in collaboration with the education commission.

Election Commission and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) will also decide on the timeframe for the completion of the process.

Meanwhile, a demonstration of electronic voting machines was held at the ECP's central office in Islamabad today. The demonstration marked a step forward towards complete computerisation of the country's electoral process.

Thus having no option to make place in the society, it is an easy way for such repeated failures to get admission in a political party, as there is no requirement for a political party worker to sit in an entrance test to pass the political examination. With the passage of time such political workers become senior members of political parties and there comes a time when these political workers are awarded political party’s tickets to contest the elections. The more popular political party is it become much easier for the failure political party’s workers to win an election and thereafter they become members of the parliament and some of them become ministers. It is not a general perception of the educated and highly qualified people to join political party’s, with few exceptions, as qualified people either sit in the competitive examination or in case of a professional degree holder, he or she pursue the career and achieve the target/goal. Similar is the case of businessmen. A person who cannot go beyond the intermediate level education enter in the business and by the time he grow with the passage of time no body cares what level of education he has achieved. There are numerous examples in our society that MBA degree holders are working under the boss who is simply a matriculate. Coming back on the political front, I think that we should forego to evaluate the legislators by weighing them what level of qualifications they have achieved? We should weigh them what output an undergraduate legislator can give to the people of his or her respective constituency. Society is a mixture of people. So what if our legislators are under-graduate legislators? As far as they are delivering, whether wrong or right, their ability should not be challenged. Again, the question arises: what graduate legislators have given to the masses? Not a single problem has been solved during the tenure of graduate legislators assemblies.
