A new mega water scheme has been approved under the Urban Development Project for the supply of water to the four densely populated village union councils of the Rawalpindi District Council which will cost Rs600 million.
According to sources, this new mega water supply scheme has been designed for UCs 75, 76, 77 and 78 while Chaklala, Shah Faisal Colony, Dhok Hafiz, Dhok Munshi, Shah Khalid Colony, and other adjoining areas.
The sources said water will be supplied to these UCs and colonies through brand-new tube wells installed in the green belt near the Islamabad Expressway.
They said major water pipelines will be laid from the tube wells to these areas, adding the scheme will permanently resolve the water shortage situation.
According to sources, there is a large population of 300,000 people, where there is no provision of drinking water. They said the project will be completed in six to nine months.
On the other hand, the project of constructing a 50,000-gallon water tank in three UCs, including 35, 34 and 41, of the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation has been stalled.
The project cost was estimated at Rs80 million. However, due to a lack of funds, the approval of this project has been postponed till the New Year.
