Except Karachi, Sindh’s population declines

Digital census shows Karachi population surpassing 20 million mark

In the data of the seventh and first digital census of the country, the population of Karachi division has reached 20,382,881 people.

Among the six divisions and 30 districts of Sindh, the highest growth rate has been seen in Karachi division and its six districts. East district surpassed Central district in terms of population.

If the dashboard of the inconclusive data of the Federal Bureau of Statistics of May 22, 2023 and the household census approved by the Council of Common Interests is reviewed, the total population of Sindh province and five divisions decreased while only the population of Karachi division has increased.

According to the Federal Bureau of Statistics, East district in Karachi has become the largest district of the city with 3,950,031 people. Earlier Central was the most populous district where now 3,822,325 people are living. Around 2,329,764 in South district, 2,679,380 in West district, 2,068,451 in Keamari district, 3,128,971 in Korangi district, while the population of Malir district consists of 2,403,959 people.

Hyderababd, Mirpurkhas

Similarly, the population of Hyderabad division consists of 11,659,246 people. This division included 1,947,081 people in Badin district, 1,742,320 in Dadu district, 2,432,540 in Hyderabad district, 1,117,308 in Jamshoro district, 849,383 in Matiari, 839,292 in Sajawal, 922,012 in Tando Allahyar, while the population in Thatta district reached 1,083,191 people. Mirpurkhas division has a population of 4,619,624 people. As per the census, 1,681,386 people have been counted in Mirpurkhas district, 1,778,407 people in Tharparkar and 1,159,831 in Umarkot.

Larkana, Sukkur, Nawabshah

As per the census figures, Larkana division has a population of 7,093,706 people. This division has 1,174,097 people living in Jacobabad district, 1,514,869 in Qambar Shahdadkot, 1,233,957 in Kashmore, and 1,784,453 people residing in Larkana district, while the population of Shikarpur district is 1,386,330.

The census shows that around 6,010,041 people are living in Sukkur division, of these 1,772,609 people have been counted in Ghotki district, 2,597,535 in Khairpur and 1,639,897 people in Sukkur district.

The population of Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah) has reached 5,930,649 people. This division included 1,777,082 people in Naushahro Feroze district, 2,308,465 people in Sanghar and 1,845,102 people in Shaheed Benazirabad district.

On the other hand, according to the inconclusive dashboard data of May 22, the population of Hyderabad division consisted of 12,388,773 people which has now reached the level of 11,659,246 people.

Similarly, the population of Larkana division decreased from 8,196,835 people to 7,093,706. The population of Mirpurkhas division decreased from 5,175,232 to 4,619,624. The population of Sukkur division decreased from 6,737,968 to 6,010,041 while the population of Shaheed Benazirabad has decreased from 6300860 people to 5930649 people.
