In a declaration of commitment, United States Ambassador, Donald Blome, highlighted the profound significance of the US-Pakistan Green Alliance Initiative as an integral global effort to combat climate change. Speaking at the Pakistan US Alumni Network’s (PUAN) two-day conference themed “The Climate Change Emergency: Pakistan in the 21st Century and the Road to COP-28,” jointly organised by PUAN and WWF-Pakistan, Blome unveiled the Alliance’s role in shaping the trajectory of environmental action.
Blome commended the PUAN national conference attendees, emphasising that their collective expertise was essential in steering such crucial discussions. He revealed that PUAN comprised 14 chapters operating across diverse countries, with over 800 members selected for their innovative prowess and dedication to confronting climate change challenges.
The US ambassador underscored that addressing climate change demanded multifaceted solutions and substantial financial resources. PUAN, embodying a diverse array of scientists, students, experts, and journalists, had successfully completed climate-focused projects across all its 14 chapters.
Drawing attention to the US-Pakistan Green Alliance, Blome urged PUAN alumni to rally behind its vision. He traced the historical contours of US support to Pakistan’s green revolution in the 1960s, highlighting its transformative impact on the agriculture sector. This Alliance, he said, presented Pakistan with an unprecedented opportunity to bolster its climate resilience through private sector engagement.
