After generating all kinds of buzz and releasing a 14-minute prologue in 2022, the Fatima Jinnah web series, directed by Danial K Afzal, will be releasing its first volume from its first season this August 14.
Titled Fatima Jinnah: Sister | Revolutionist | Stateswoman, the upcoming offering will be depicting Madar-e-Millat in three eras: Fatima Jinnah in her 30s and during the pre-partition era, Fatima Jinnah in her 50s and during Independence, and Fatima Jinnah in her 70s during the post-partition era.
Afzal roped in Sundus Farhan, Sajal Aly, and Samiya Mumtaz to essay Fatima Jinnah in the aforementioned eras respectively. The first part, which the world will soon be able to experience, revolves around the great political leader being a sister. A steadfast companion of the founder of our nation, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, this part of the series will set the stage for our beloved Madar-e-Millat's tumultuous journey ahead.
In a previous conversation with The Express Tribune, Afzal revealed that the web series, which has been solely shot in Lahore and Islamabad will not just see Fatima Jinnah but many other historical figures as well. Apparently, Quaid-e-Azam, Allama Iqbal, Liaquat Ali Khan, Ruttie Jinnah and Rana Liaquat Hussain, among others, will also be making appearances.
“I won’t reveal who will essay Quaid-e-Azam! Like Fatima Jinnah in the show, we also have different actors playing the Founding Father in the series,” said Afzal. “You’ll see a lot you would not be expecting! Oh, you should wait for Ruttie Bai in the show! That would change the landscape of South Asia.”
Afzal also shared that his narrative for the upcoming web series is based on a book about Madar-e-Millat by Reza Pirbhai. “The thing about this show is that it shows Fatima Jinnah in a very grey narrative. This is not going to be an overt patriotic project; it is not a feel-good show; I am showing Fatima Jinnah as a human and people will it!” he said. The web series, currently comprised of three seasons with 15 episodes each, will air on aur-digital – a new digital medium.
