The Local Hepatitis Elimination and Prevention (LHEAP) project in collaboration with the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department of Punjab is all set to begin its second phase on August 1 [tomorrow].
Under the plan, 15,000 residents of UC-10 will be vaccinated with the help of 10 door-to-door teams. From August 7 onwards, the programme will extend to UC-11, UC-14, and UC-15, with 10 teams assigned to each UC.
To execute this project, 80 skilled individuals, including vaccinators and dispensers, have been recruited and will be supervised by the area in-charges in each UC. An LHEAP healthcare unit has also been established at the Municipal Medical Centre in Satellite Town, 5th Road, Rawalpindi.
The LHEAP unit will operate from 8am to 8pm under the supervision of qualified primary healthcare physicians. Moreover, screening and treatment facilities will be available for all while 14 beds have also been allocated for emergency patients.
Additionally, an ambulance from LHEAP will be on standby to transport patients as needed. LHEAP is also organising a seminar and a training event to mark “World Hepatitis Day 2023” on August 5 at Marriott Hotel in Islamabad.
