HARIPUR:

Following the successful negotiations between the nanbais and the district administration, the Hazara Nanbai Association on Thursday officially called off the strike, enabling the citizens to take a sigh of relief.

The decision to call off the strike came a day after the association announced an ‘indefinite’ strike which followed the closure of over 200 tandoors across the division on Wednesday, making it extremely difficult for the citizens to purchase roti.

People were forced to stand in long queues outside the hotels as most owners observed a strike in protest against the sealing of tandoors by the Haripur assistant commissioner a day earlier.

Sources told The Express Tribune that Haripur AC Faraz Qureshi asked the association to obtain a stay order from the court against the decision of the deputy commissioner’s price committee and the provincial food department regarding the price of roti.

“Just show me a copy of it [stay order] and I will stop imposing fines on you,” he told members of the association. Agreeing to the proposal, the association decided to take back the strike call.

After the official announcement to take off the strike call was made, all the tandoors across Haripur City opened and started selling roti as usual.
