KARACHI:

A petition was moved in the Sindh High Court (SHC) seeking immediate action to address the alarming safety hazard posed by the dire state of the pedestrian bridge adjacent to New Urdu Bazaar in the Golimar area of Nazimabad.

The petitioner, Imran Aziz, has named the Karachi mayor and the local government secretary as respondents in his petition. Imran Aziz, a frequent visitor to New Urdu Bazaar, states that while on the lookout for children's books, on July 1 he experienced a harrowing incident.

The petitioner further states that he, accompanied by his children, traversed the pedestrian bridge adjacent to Golimar, only to be confronted with an appalling sight. The overpass has succumbed to a dilapidated state, riddled with large holes, and devoid of safety iron bars.

The situation poses an imminent threat to pedestrians, with children being especially vulnerable to the perils lurking overhead. The possibility of a major accident looms over this neglected passageway, demanding immediate attention and action.

The petition implores the Karachi mayor to immediately initiate the repair and restoration of the flyover. Beyond that, the appeal extends to other overpasses throughout the city, all in desperate need of attention and care.
