LHC orders PCB chief’s election within a week
The Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench on Friday ordered to conduct the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman’s election within a week.
The court also directed that the Management Committee should notify the Board of Governors within 15 days.
The court noted that political interference in the sports infrastructure of the country caused serious harm.
The petition against the PCB Board of Governors was filed by Rawalpindi Cricket Association President Naveed Abbasi.
The petitioner stated that the Board of Governors includes the top four teams of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, including those from Rawalpindi and Karachi.
He noted that the board formed on June 22 includes teams from Larkana, Hyderabad, and Dera Murad Jamali.
During the hearing of the case, PCB lawyer Imtiaz Ali Siddiqui appeared before the court.
The lawyer told the bench that the federal government had constituted a new Board of Governors on June 22.
The court directed that a new Board of Governors should be formed by issuing a schedule, following which elections should be held for the chairman.
