Two Eids

Letter August 30, 2011

ISLAMABAD: Shahabuddin Popalzai has once again created problems for people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The cleric of Peshawar’s famous Qasim Ali Khan mosque yet again independently arranged a moon-sighting session at the mosque on August 29 and on his own declared August 30 as Eidul Fitr. This, of course, is tantamount to establishing a parallel moon-sighting committee, bypassing all instructions of provincial and federal government and making mockery of the law.

Such irresponsible and untoward behaviour is uncalled for and the government should take note of it and act accordingly. People coming to the province from other parts of the country are unable to complete the fasts of the holy month since many would end up a day short.
