In a significant development, the government has established its inaugural Judicial Protection Unit, aimed at bolstering security measures for judges.
This initiative, following the special directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and with the keen interest of Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, has prompted a comprehensive reorganisation within the Security Division Islamabad, according to a police public relations officer.
The Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, has spearheaded the complete restructuring of the Security Division, prioritising the fortification of judges' offices, court premises, and residences. Under the vigilant supervision of the SSP Security Division, the newly formed Judicial Protection Unit will operate with utmost diligence.
Further, a standard operating procedure (SOP) has been issued to ensure the security of all courts, accompanied by the installation of over 500 cutting-edge security cameras within court facilities. These cameras are seamlessly integrated into the advanced surveillance system of the Safe City Islamabad project, facilitating direct monitoring of court premises.

To strengthen security measures for residences and courts, a request for the recruitment of 550 personnel has already been submitted to the Ministry of Interior. Once the necessary financial resources are allocated, the performance of this unit is expected to witness further improvement.
Previously, the Islamabad Capital Police had established various units dedicated to enhancing security in the federal capital. Notable among these units is the Diplomatic Protection Unit (DPU), which focuses on safeguarding foreign diplomats and delegations in Islamabad. Additionally, the Special Protection Unit (SPU) ensures the security of Chinese nationals and other foreigners residing and working in Islamabad.
Further, the VVIP Protection Unit is entrusted with providing comprehensive security measures for the president and prime minister of Pakistan. Lastly, the High Security Zone Protection Unit (HSZPU) is responsible for protecting members of the National Assembly, federal ministers, high-ranking officials, ministries, and civil offices.
CCPO Akbar emphasised that the restructuring of the Security Division is driven by the objective of ensuring the safety of foreign embassies and diplomats in the federal capital, as well as safeguarding national dignitaries and important offices.
