A Pakistan Army officer was martyred late on Wednesday night during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Shakhas area of Khyber District.
Three alleged terrorists and their facilitators were also arrested during the operation, according to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday.
The security forces were establishing positions to block the suspects from escaping, when Major Shah spotted a party of terrorists and intercepted them. An exchange of fire ensued resulting in the martyrdom of the major, apprised the ISPR.
The martyred officer, Major Mian Abdullah Shah, 33, hailed from Kohat.

“Sanitization of the area is being carried out to eliminate terrorists present in the area,” said the ISPR. “Security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the statement added.
Last week, the ISPR claimed to have killed three terrorists, including a commander, during an IBO in the general area of Inayat Qilla, Bajaur district.
The media wing of the military stated that an intense exchange of fire had occurred during the operation and weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the slain suspects.
In a separate press release issued last week, the ISPR informed that one terrorist was killed and three others were injured during another IBO in Khyber district.
