Seminary rape

A tragic incident occurred in Raiwind where an eight-year-old boy, Samar, lost his life due to critical injuries sustained from an alleged rape and assault by his madrasa teacher. The suspect, Qari Rizwan, has been arrested by the police on charges of child abuse. According to the FIR, in an attempt to hide his heinous act, the accused took Samar to the rooftop of the building and threw him down, resulting in severe head injuries and multiple fractures. Despite a tenacious fight, Samar succumbed to his critical condition and passed away ten days later.

This distressing event highlights the abhorrent and inhumane nature of a crime committed by an individual devoid of moral values. It underscores the urgent need for rigorous regulation of seminaries and similar places of learning nationwide to prevent abuse and ensure the safety of students. It is disconcerting that religious institutions, considered custodians of moral values, have largely remained silent in the face of such incidents. Their active participation in preventing abuse is crucial, but they seem more focused on upholding outdated values instead of addressing contemporary issues. Religious leaders must recognise their responsibility in condemning sexual violence and taking proactive measures against abuse, especially within madrasas. Religious institutions must actively work towards eradicating sexual violence, creating a society where every child is safe, protected and nurtured in accordance with Islamic ideals. Meanwhile, the perpetrator should undergo a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation in order to understand his motives and intentions, dispelling any misconceptions surrounding rape cases.

It is imperative for Pakistani society to unite in condemning sexual violence, demanding accountability and striving for a future where children are protected and empowered in a safe environment. Through collective efforts, we can build a society free from the horrors of rape, securing a brighter future for our children.
