New oxygen plant inaugurated

Facility was built in collaboration with UNICEF

MUZAFFARGARH:

An oxygen gas plant, built with the support of UNICEF, was inaugurated at District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) on Tuesday to cater to the medical needs of the locals. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Muzaffargarh Salman Lodhi said that the plant would help save Rs41.1 million per annum for the local health department.

UNICEF will be responsible for the maintenance and protection of the plant for the next two years.

Oxygen produced at this facility could also be supplied to other districts and private hospitals. The plant has the capacity to fill at least 40 cylinders at any given time, the DC added. Later, DC Lodhi chaired a meeting with Medical Superintendents from local Hospitals. He encouraged participants to ensure the smooth delivery of oxygen from the plant to DHQ and public hospitals across the region.

He directed the superintendents to arrange cylinders according to their needs, while the supply of oxygen to rural and primary health centres would be the responsibility of the Muzaffargarh Health Department. The DC further instructed CEO Health to prepare SOPs for the production of oxygen and its delivery to respective places.

CEO Health Dr Zafar Abbas, DHO Dr Mohammad Saeed Akhtar, MS DHQ Hospital Dr Ziaul Hasan and other officials participated in the meeting.
