MULTAN:

Customs Collector Multan Enforcement Dr Rahmatullah Vistro said that the department requested truck-mounted scanners from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to control smuggling in South Punjab.

Speaking at a news conference at his office on Thursday with Assistant Controllers Hira Khan and Maryam Haq, he stated that the scanners would scan large vehicles to detect smuggled goods like wheat or diesel.

He disclosed that he had experience with the scanners, which were used in an American project which proved fruitful in countering smuggling. Sharing details of the current month’s performance, Dr Vistro said that the Collectorate had seized 200,000 litres of smuggled diesel within 15 days, besides impounding around 20 Non-Custom Paid Vehicles (NCP) and tempered vehicles.
