Netflix is reportedly launching its first live-streamed sporting event this fall as the company is in talks to create a new, celebrity-driven golf tournament in Las Vegas. According to The Wall Street Journal, the event will include celebrities of other sports content.

Live-streaming sports events translate as high stakes for host companies and Netflix has recently failed to garner an excited audience for its show, Love is Blind, live reunion. The streaming platform did, however, manage to host a live stream of Chris Rock's comedy special with success.

While Netflix had been interested in live-streaming sports since 2022, it didn't dive into the waters until now. So far, the company has invested heavily in documentaries which have been bought in great success for the company.

The one-off golf tournament would be a test case for Netflix to show leagues and advertisers that it can handle more complex events. It would also mean the company could expand into the sports business alongside NFL and ESPN, and have plenty of content to stream, and plenty of good intellectual property to make shows about.
