Two die after inhaling toxic gases
Two sanitary workers who died due to complications from inhaling poisonous gases while trying to rescue a teenager were laid to rest in their ancestral towns on Sunday.
One of the two workers, identified as Jabir, was scheduled to get married after Eid.
According to available information, Jabir as well as other workers had scaled down a sewerage hole in search of a teenager who fell in it while retrieving a ball. This took place in the evening on Saturday.
In response to the situation, the sanitary workers who lived in the same area scaled down the well to rescue the boy.
Four people entered the well to rescue the boy and all lost consciousness after inhaling poisonous gases and had to be pulled out.
With the support of the Rescue 1122 team and the local public, the four rescuers as well as the teenager were retrieved from the well. They were taken to the Civil Hospital Pind Dadan Khan, where Jabir was pronounced dead.
Two others were shifted to Sargodha in a critical condition, with another dying later in the day.
Acting Commissioner Pind Dadan Khan Anwar Kanjo and former MPAs Nazar Gondal, Haji Nasir as well as citizens, journalists, police and civil society members attended the funeral.
