ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court registrar has returned an application seeking restoration of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assemblies with objections.

The objections said that the prime minister, president and the chief ministers could not be made a party under Article 248.

The registrar said that public interest or fundamental rights had not been identified in the petition, directing the petitioner to directly approach the Supreme Court instead of the relevant forum.

It was said that the points raised by the applicant were not satisfactory.

The former ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had dissolved the Punjab and K-P assemblies in January in a bid to force the ruling coalition to hold elections in the country.
