ISPR says three terrorists also killed during operation

Three soldiers embraced martyrdom during an operation targeting a terrorist location in the general area of Miranshah of North Waziristan district, the military's media wing reported on Sunday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that on the night of June 9 and 10, an exchange of fire took place between Pakistani troops and terrorists.

It added that as a result of this incident, three terrorists were killed while four others were injured.

The statement continued that weapons and ammunition were found on the slain terrorists.

“However, during the intense exchange of fire, Subedar Asghar Ali (age 40 years, resident of Lakki Marwat district), Sepoy Naseem Khan (age 26 years, resident of Lakki Marwat district) and Sepoy Muhammad Zaman (age 22 years, resident of Abbottabad) having fought gallantly, embraced shahadat (martyrdom),” the ISPR said.

The military’s media wing stated that “sanitisation” of the area was under way to eliminate any other terrorists found there.

“[The] armed forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the statement added.

Earlier this month, Security forces killed two terrorists during an exchange of fire in general area Dossali, North Waziristan district.

Further, On May 31, at least two terrorists were killed in an intelligence based operation (IBO) launched by the security forces in the same area on the reported presence of militants.

Previously, it was reported that all the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists, who clashed with local residents and police in the mountains of Banjot area of Swat, had managed to escape despite the cops claiming that they had been holed up in a cave.

During his maiden press conference, on April 25, Director General ISPR Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry revealed that a total of 8,269 IBOs had been conducted since January, as a result of which, 1,535 terrorists were either killed or apprehended. Of these, 4,040 IBOs were conducted in Balochistan, another 3,591 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 119 in Punjab and 519 in Sindh.

On an average, over 70 IBOs were being conducted daily by the army, police and other law enforcement agencies since January, he continued.

Subsequently, K-P registered a decline of 11.9% in incidents of terrorism during the month of April 2023 because of the strategy of prevention through detection by the Counter-Terrorism Department.

The DG ISPR told the reporters that most of the work on border fencing had been completed on a total of 3,141 kilometres in an effort to curtail terrorist activities.

“Under [the] border management, more than 98% of work on the 2,611-km Pak-Afghan border has been completed … More than 85% of the work on the Pakistan-Iran border has been completed,” he continued.
