WordPress is getting a new AI plug-in that can generate and edit text, called Jetpack AI Assistant. Available for free for WordPress users for a 'limited time', the AI assistance can cost $10 a month after using the 20 free requests.
The parent company of WordPress, Automatic, described the new tool as a “creative writing partner” that lets users “generate diverse content at your command, significantly reducing the time and effort required in content creation.”
Jetpack AI can be used to summarize a blog post in a headline, adjust the tone of the text, or generate an entire blog post using a prompt. Moreover, the tool can correct spelling, grammar and translate between 12 languages.
Automatic has used this launch to draw more users to WordPress.com by luring them with exciting additional features for things, like security and support. The negative impact of this tool, however, can be immense as copywriters are already beginning to lose their jobs in favour of AI generation tools like ChatGPT.
Others are worried about the low-grade AI-generated spam that will ensue once these tools become common, especially as most copy they produce is inaccurate, out of date or bland.
