Bilawal discusses bilateral ties with Iraqi leaders

FM continues Iraq trip exploring avenues for peace and stability in the region and beyond

ISLAMABAD:

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met several senior Iraqi officials on Tuesday and discussed with them the ways to enhance the bilateral relations in various fields, according to Foreign Office officials.

Bilawal, who is in Iraq, called on Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi, Hikmat Party President Ammar al-Hakeem and head of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Sheikh Dr Hamoudi. the officials said.

According to a press release, Foreign Minister Bilawal and Speaker al-Halbousi noted that the cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries would strengthen the bilateral brotherly relations.

Bilawal underscored the significance of high-level parliamentary exchanges in learning from each other’s experiences. “They discussed measures to enhance cooperation … especially promotion of cooperative parliamentary exchanges,” the Foreign Office said.

During the meeting between Bilawal and al-Hakeem, both sides discussed the political ties between the two countries and other issues of mutual interest. Bilawal termed the high level political linkages between the Pakistan and Iraq highly important.

Foreign Minister Bilawal, also, met with head of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Sheikh Dr Hamoudi. The discussions focused on efforts for peace and stability of the region and beyond, the Foreign Office spokesperson on her Twitter handle.
