KARACHI:

Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) Malir Zone Assistant Director Azhar Hussain’s tortured body was discovered from Edhi Morgue Sohrab Goth a night after he went missing.

Hussain, a resident of Alfalah society was allegedly killed during quarrel with his second wife's sister and her husband.

The body was kept in the Edhi Morgue under a false name by the husband of his wife’s sister. Surprisingly, the morgue’s administration skipped the crucial formality of asking for the identity card of either the deceased or the person keeping the body.

The family suspects that the reason for Hussain's death is his property worth billions of rupees. As a sector in-charge of the MQM and a government official, he had amassed assets beyond means. The deceased had two wives. The brother of the second wife wanted to transfer the entire assets of Hussain to his sister, instead of equal distribution between the two wives.

Hussain's dead body was found in Edhi Mortuary on Monday night, his second wife's brother, Mehboob had kept the dead body in Edhi Mortuary Sohrab Goth on the morning of June 4 and said that the death of the deceased was due to natural causes, Shoaib, the brother of his first wife said this while talking to The Express Tribune.

It should be noted that the deceased Hussain left his residence in Alfalah Society on the night of June 3 after telling his daughter that he was going to attend a meeting with his friends, after which he went missing.

After not coming home all night, the daughter called her paternal uncle Muzaffar Hussain and told him that papa has not come home for the whole night and his mobile phone is also switched off, after which the family searched him everywhere but all in vain.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Muzaffar said he reached Edhi Mourge in search of his brother the night of June 5, but the officials said there was no body by the name of Azhar Hussain. However, they allowed him inside the mortuary to check on some unidentified bodies. “I checked the unidentified bodies, but my brother was not there. However, as I was leaving, I noticed a body, its shroud was slightly removed and I suddenly recognized my brother’s shirt,” Mazhar said chocking with tears.

On the news of Hussain's body being found, the family members were in severe grief and there was hue and cry in the house.

The deceased's family, friends and other people reached Edhi Mortuary Sohrab Goth where the deceased's brother told The Express Tribune that there were clear marks of torture on the body and cigarette burns on hands.

Meanwhile, Samanabad police station SHO Salim Khan reached the Edhi Mourge and after getting information from the family, contacted Alfalah police station SHO Sub-Inspector Hidayatullah and informed him about the death of Azhar Hussain. SHO Alfalah also reached Edhi mortuary.

However, at that time, information was received from the house of the deceased that the brother-in-law of the deceased, Shahab, told his sister Shazia, the wife of the deceased, that Hussain had a heated argument with her sister Aafia, a resident of Nazimabad. During the argument at Afia’s husband, Mehboob, came home.

Incensed over Hussain having the audacity to insult his wife at his home, Mehboob flew into a rage and stated beating Hussain. During the scuffle, Hussain fell on the floor head first and died.

Mehboob took Hussain to Civil Hospital where the doctors said he had passed away.

Mehboob and other people accompanying him took the body to Sohrab Goth Edhi Morgue in a privatecar and left there under a false name. Shahab said that Mehboob has done all this out of fear.
Shahab asked his sister to stop the police action because it will bring disgrace to all of us, but Hussain's brothers refused to stop the police action.

SHO Salim Khan said that now it has been confirmed that Hussain died during a fight at Aafia's house in Nazimabad, so the rest of the action will be taken by the Nazimabad police.
