PPP gets 51 reserved seats, JI 43 in third phase of LG polls

Ruling party in Sindh now has 155 seats in KMC, JI 130, PTI 62, PML-N 14

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has won 51 reserved seats in the City Council of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) followed by Jamaat Islami (JI) that has bagged 43 seats, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) got 20 and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) six seats.

Following the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) allocation of reserved seats, PPP now has 155 seats in the city council. Jamaat Islami (JI) has become the second largest group with 130 seats in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) City Council.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) now stands at third position with 62 seats. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has 14 seats in the KMC house, while Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has four and TLP one.

The total number of seats in the City Council is 371 and the magic number required to win the mayor's office is 186 members of the house. With the current party position , no single party can make claim to the throne of the mayor of Karachi with help of coalition partners.

Meanwhile, PPP won 34 seats reserved for women, while JI bagged 29 special seats. PTI bagged 14 women seats, PML-N and JUI won three seats each.

The PPP won five reserved seats for youth, JI four seats, PTI two seats and the PML-N grabbed one seat reserved for youth. In election for labourers special seats, the PPP bagged five seats, JI four, PTI two and PML-N one seat.

Moreover, in election for minorities special seats, the PPP bagged five seats, JI four, PTI two and PML-N one seat. JI and PPP bagged one seat each from two seats of the city council reserved for disabled persons and transgender categories. The election of mayor and deputy mayor will take place on June 15.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has congratulated the representatives of PPP who won the seats in the third phase of LG polls.
