US commitment to ‘green alliance’ highlighted
The Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) from the United States Andrew Schofer visited Karachi from May 31 to June 3 and highlighted the US commitment to the "green alliance" framework, healthcare, and education in Pakistan. The DCM engaged with various stakeholders such as government officials, doctors, human rights activists, and students sponsored by the US government's English works! programme
As part of the "green alliance" framework, both countries work together to tackle future environmental and economic challenges. Schofer participated in a roundtable discussion on "Green Shipping" with Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari, government officials, and private sector leaders. The aim was to identify ways to promote eco-friendly shipping practices in Pakistan.
Schofer met 24 students and teachers who will attend NASA Space Camp this summer, with a grant from the US Consulate Karachi and the Dawood Foundation (TDF). The TDF received a $250,000 grant to support STEM education in low-income schools. The grant will facilitate teachers' training, students’ visits to the MagnifiScience Centre, and a STEM competition.
