The trailer for Express Entertainment's Guru was recently released, and it seems to promise a narrative packed with hard-hitting and pertinent storytelling. In the depths of a stormy night, a mother lies in bed, frantic, and in pain as she goes into labour. The weight of societal expectations looms over her, as her husband coldly declares that her worth hinges solely on delivering a son.

Consumed by fear, she dreads the possibility that her husband may harm both her and the child if it turns out to be a girl. The scene transitions to an intersex character discovering an abandoned child.

It is here that we are introduced to Ali Rehman Khan, who embodies this complex and nuanced role with his intersex avatar. Thus commences a profound struggle, not only to protect the child from the harsh realities of their society but also to reunite her with her estranged family.

The trailer has numerous emotionally charged moments, leaving a lasting impact on the audience. We witness the mother's haunted gaze, peering into an abyss of despair while her child lies in her arms, her eyes reflecting the weight of her circumstances.

Khan's character, seen in deep contemplation, hints at the internal conflicts and personal journeys that lie ahead. Additionally, we catch glimpses of Khan's character performing before an audience, shedding light on the arduous reality faced by individuals from marginalized communities, who often resort to taxing means to make ends meet.

Guru promises to be a powerful exploration of societal misogyny, highlighting the significance placed on the birth of a son. The narrative delves into the emotional depths of the characters, unravelling the impacts of discrimination, drug abuse, and the rigid social class system. Supported by a talented ensemble cast, including Zhalay Sarhadi, Hira Khan, and Umer Aalam, the drama offers a compelling portrayal of diverse characters that will captivate viewers.

Shazia Wajahat, one of the producers of the drama, has commended Khan for fearlessly taking on a challenging role outside of his comfort zone. This decision to break barriers with a whole new look highlights the actor's dedication to pushing boundaries and exploring uncharted territory.

It is thus that the upcoming project appears to be more than just a television drama; it is a social commentary on the issues that plague our society. Starting from June 7, every Wednesday at 8 pm, Guru is poised to make a profound impact on its viewers.
