Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Engineer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rahman accused Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of misleading the nation.
"The ceremony for the K-4 water supply project has been held for the fourth time to misguide the masses," Naeem said.
Speaking at the press conference at the JI Karachi headquarters, he elaborated that prime minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced to complete the project in two years with a cost of Rs126 billion. The project's cost was projected at Rs126 billion some two years ago when the value of the US dollar was much lower.
Hafiz Naeem said that under the project, water was supplied to Karachi through Kenjher Lake but there is no development on the ground from KB Feeder, Kotari Barrage to the lake.
He further said that the water quota for Karachi from the Indus River is one per-cent, whereas to complete the 650 million gallon water per day project needs additional one per-cent quota from the river. What actions have been taken so far to increase the quota?, he questioned. The JI leader mentioned that the capacity of the first phase of the K4 water supply project has been kept at 260 million gallons of water. The government needs to announce the timeframe for completion of the first phase of the project.
According to him, PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari claims to discuss the completion of development projects at a speeding pace, but in reality, the party and its leaders hinder the progress of Karachi's development.
Talking about the local government elections, he said that the PPP could not complete its numbers despite employing all fascist tactics. He added that the PPP and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have been defacing the democracy in the country while resorting to political revenge in the pretext of reaction to the May 9 riots.
